Most of all consider whether your trip is absolutely essential. STAY HOME if the Weather is severe. Safety should always be the…
. Avoid Cruise Control: In slippery conditions, it’s best to have full control over acceleration and deceleration. Avoid using cruise control to reduce the risk of skidding.
Plan for Delays: Winter weather can lead to delays. Leave early to give yourself extra time to reach your destination without feeling rushed or stressed. Watch for Black Ice: Be especially cautious on bridges, overpasses, and shaded areas where black ice can form. Black ice is often invisible but extremely slippery.
Know Your Car: Familiarize yourself with your vehicle’s features, especially those related to winter driving like traction control and stability control. Understanding your car can enhance your safety.
Illuminate Your Intentions: Use your headlights, even during the day. This increases visibility for you and other drivers. Clear all snow from your vehicle, including headlights and taillights.
Keep Emergency Supplies Onboard: Pack essentials like a blanket, flashlight, extra warm clothing, and non-perishable snacks. A fully charged phone and a first aid kit can be invaluable in case of an emergency.
Stay Informed: Check weather and road conditions before you leave. Plan your route and be aware of any potential hazards or closures. Stay updated through reliable sources.
Here’s tip number 4 in our series of Winter Driving Tips Brake Smoothly: Avoid sudden movements. Brake gently to prevent skidding. If your vehicle has anti-lock brakes (ABS), apply firm, continuous pressure in case of a skid.
Tip 3 – Winter Tyres Matter: Consider investing in winter tyres for better traction on icy roads. They can make a significant difference in your ability to navigate winter conditions safely.
Clear Visibility is Key: Before hitting the road, ensure all windows, mirrors, and lights are clear of snow and ice. It’s not just about seeing – it’s about being seen! Get in touch if you’d like to improving your winter driving skills with our experienced team.
